Marble is non-foliated metaphosed limestone rock which is composed of re-crystallized carbonate minerals, most commonly calcite and dolomite. In non-geological contexts it is often used to refer to any hard, calcite rock that can be cut or polished. Generally it is used for sculpture and as building materials.
Marble, the metamorphic stone not only provides a pristine touch to our homes or hotels but also has a soothing effect on our lives due to its glorious brilliance. Commonly marbles has available in various colors and shades ,its wrinkled thin layers that show in cross section are sinuous lines in marbles these layers are termed as stylolites, which is depending on their chemical and mineralogical composition. Pure white marble product is the result of metamorphism of a very pure limestone or dolomite protolith. Other color varieties are usually due to various mineral impurities such as silt, sand, clay, chert or iron oxide. Carrara marble is pure white but siena marble has red mottling.
